  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I first developed my passion for music from the age of ten. I spent the majority of my time leaning and developing my singing as well as opening myself up to many musical styles and genres. After finding and building my lifelong passion in singing, I started to develop areas which would complement it. I had lessons and taught myself to a high standard in guitar and piano. With these skills I ended up finding my self performing at local venues as well as London musical venues and theatres. After performing and writing music for prestigious occasions I kept getting getting asked the same question. "Which is your favourite instrument"? My reply has always been the same which is "The Voice." This is because the voice has many different layers and qualities to use and as a singing teacher this provides a lot of excitement and discovery which is one of my main motivations when teaching.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Throughout my Career of being in the Music and musical Theatre industry I've been exposed to many genres of music. Having a favourite is merely impossible. However, the genres which I have worked closely with are Pop, Country, Musical Theatre, Classical, Rock and Jazz. These have been in my career as a performer as well being the most poplar demands from my students.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Singing is a very wide subject. Every student of mine is different and require different needs. Wether they are looking for confidence, better technique, style and genre exploration or possibly ATS (Acting Through Song), every student has their own personal singing difficulties and it's up to me to find techniques which will help solve them. Singing is difficult. It requires a hardworking student who can find motivation on days where it's most difficult to find. I've experienced how hard the Music and Musical Theatre industry is. There are many set backs and walls which will get in your way but I believe and have learnt that every bit of adversity in these skills and industries is one step closer to reaching your dream.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The most complicated instrument to master in my opinion is singing. There are many disciplines in singing but time and effort is personally the most valuable. Genres and styles change dramatically with time which can impact the singers voice. This means the singer has always got to readapt their voice to best suit what they are singing. The singers voice as I mentioned before requires many layers and textures. These layers and textures can be limitless and can only be found through practise and discovery. Everyone's voice is different and this is a big reason to why it's the most complicated instrument to master. If everyone's voice was the same we would have an even greater understanding than we know presently, which would mean faster results. But because everyones voice is different this means there are more unknown obstacles to discover and resolve. Compared to a guitar, an object is easier to repair and improve but a biological issue or improvement with the voice will take a significant amount of time compared to the guitar.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

I believe success in developing your voice and even outside singing can be scary and difficult. However, I have a few keys to success which me and my students follow and have benefited from dramatically. Key number one is passion. Always find your passion in singing and let it remind you of your dreams and goals. Key number two is patience. Without patience you can lose motivation and the grip of your goals/aspirations. Patience is a huge key when it comes to singing, your voice doesn't change over night. Think of your voice like muscles in a gym. If you train for one day at the gym you not suddenly going to become Arnold Schwarzenegger. But over time with practise and patience you can start to see results. The last key is interest. Interest can spark motivation, patience and passion. This key doesn't have to mean an individual wants to study all night about the voice but to have a genuine interest about it. It's like anything, if you're not interested in a subject or topic your energy won't be directed towards it. However if you're reading this then I can already tell you're interested and ready to start your vocal journey.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

My valuable line which I always mention to my students is "Singing is speaking with your heart and not your head". This means that when you sing you're actually just talking with a heightened emotion and this is because you're using the vulnerability and pureness of the heart and not the complicated qualities of your head.
  • 7) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I would not consider myself a professional or a master vocal coach as I believe in this topic it can be an arrogant mindset. With singing and learning the voice is always changing and there is always something new to learn. So I believe no one is a master or the best but someone who is more experienced and callused from the journey is a powerful individual. I have discovered many voices in people and found a new happiness within them. I have given individuals techniques and qualities so they can reach their goals and be the singers they have always wanted to be. My students gain qualities such as health, strength, motivation, and overall happiness in their singing as well as their lifestyle. It's rare to find teachers who benefit both the topic (singing) and their lifestyle at the same time but I can confidently say that I am that one person who can do that for you. If you want to improve your singing dramatically, become a more knowledgeable and clever singer and make a huge positive impact on your life then I'm the teacher for you. I have the little touches that you've been missing on your vocal journey and it would be a pleasure to reach your goals and dreams with you.
If you have read this and you're feeling a sense of hope and happiness then I believe you're halfway to becoming the singer you have always wanted to be.
